Sopot Jazz Festival 2022 – Day Two

Second day of the Sopot Jazz Festival took place in Radisson Blu Sopot.

With the Artur Dutkiewicz Quartet for a tribute to Tomasz Szukalski and for the second act with Adam Pierończyk / Migratory Poets feat. Anthony Joseph.

Artur Dutkiewicz, called the “Polish Jazz Ambassador”, a renowned jazz pianist and composer, presented a unique music project in hommage of Tomasz Szukalski for the 10th anniversary of his death. The quartet, composed of 3 members of the original line-up of the Master’s quartet played a joyful jazz, interspersed with anecdotes that made the crowd laugh without restraint. In background, you could appreciate a slideshow with pictures of Tomasz Szukalski with friends.

After a quick piano tuning, took place something special, an encounter between poetic & improvised music and playful beautiful spoken words.

Lead by Polish Jazz saxophonist Adam Pierończyk, accompanied by Anthony Joseph, a poet, writer, performer and storyteller, and musicians from Poland, Brazil and the US. The second part of the evening was unusual, intriguing and mesmerizing. From time to time, I felt I was in a classic 50’s polar movie.

And the drummers that evening! They were from another planet. A league above any other drummers I’ve ever seen. Such a change in rhythms. Very impressive.
