Laboratorium Pieśni, an all-female vocal ensemble, has been captivating audiences since their formation in 2013. Specializing in traditional polyphonic singing, they draw inspiration from Slavic and Balkan traditions. Over the years, they have released multiple albums, including “Rosna“, “Rasti“, and their latest release “Hé Oyáte“, which have solidified their reputation for blending shamanic rhythms with evocative, layered harmonies. Their ability to transport listeners into a meditative state makes them a unique presence in world music, stirring deep emotional responses that transcend sound alone.
Last Sunday, I had the pleasure of attending Laboratorium Pieśni’s performance for the second time this year: first at the Brasswood Festival and now at Stary Maneż in Gdańsk. I was completely enchanted during their Brasswood Festival concert, and this time was no different.
Polyphonic chants and shamanic drumbeats filled the room, and I felt a growing sense of calm yet deep emotion. Laboratorium Pieśni’s performances affect me in a profound way: it feels as though they open my heart, revealing hidden, difficult emotions, and invite me to acknowledge and embrace them with love and acceptance. Their music is gentle, yet so powerful; peaceful, yet deeply moving.
It seemed the audience shared my sentiments. I observed their focus and immersion in the moment, in the music and the group’s message. The power of their voices, the steady beat of the drums – everything worked in perfect harmony to invite us into a shared space of reflection and connection.
