WIJ Return With New Single “Sznur”
WIJ are back with a new single, “Sznur“, and there is a bigger story behind it. The track is the first taste of “Protisty“, the band’s third full length album, due out on 23 October via Piranha Music.
“Sznur” is a dark, tense piece of music that feels built around pressure and release. The lyrics circle around control, strength, helplessness and the moment when something finally breaks free.
The video makes that idea impossible to miss. The lead singer is bound in a shibari style rope arrangement, turning the imagery of the song into something physical and unsettling. Throughout the video, the tension between being held and trying to escape becomes part of the story, until she finally breaks free at the end. It is a simple but effective visual idea, and it fits the song rather perfectly.
The new album also marks an important change for WIJ. “Protisty” is their first full length release recorded as a four piece, opening another chapter for a band that has never sounded particularly interested in standing still.
The video for “Sznur” was created by Ćmy i Paprocie.
For now, “Sznur” is the piece to put on. A promising first look at what WIJ have been cooking.
And if you want to see WIJ in their natural habitat, they will be back on stage in Gdańsk with another excellent band, Fertile Hump, on 5 November at Drizzly Grizzly. You can also check out our live photos of WIJ from their last concert at B90 here.
