After more than a year away from the spotlight, Los Angeles alternative rock trio Slothrust are back with “Burn The Deck”, their first new music since 2025’s “Wildcard” EP. Released through Equal Vision Records, the single is a sharp, surreal and unapologetically confrontational statement that refuses to play by anyone else’s rules.
Describing the track, vocalist and guitarist Leah Wellbaum and drummer Will Gorin explain:
“‘Burn the Deck’ is a song encouraging people to dismantle the current systems keeping them in a cage of their own making. It’s a surrealist disruptor’s anthem that beckons listeners to carefully consider what they are consuming and challenge their notion of who is really driving”.
Driven by unsettling imagery and biting lyrics, “Burn The Deck” questions conformity, manipulation and blind obedience. Rather than offering easy answers, the song invites listeners to look beyond the surface and challenge the structures that quietly shape everyday life.
Alongside the new single, Slothrust have announced The Dystopian Theatre Tour, their first US headline run in over a year. The tour begins on 15 September in Omaha, includes an appearance at Riot Fest, and concludes in Los Angeles this November. Support will come from The Velveteers and Um, Jennifer? on selected dates.
Speaking about returning to the stage, Wellbaum says:
“After being off the road for the past year and a half, we are delighted to announce that we are ready to get back on it. We hope to offer a night of escape from the stresses of everyday life and invite you into our wacky world for one night.”
If “Burn The Deck” is any indication of what’s coming next, Slothrust haven’t lost their ability to blend razor sharp alternative rock with thought provoking songwriting. It’s a welcome return.
