Fresh from the release of their ferocious new album “Grizzly”, Slaughter To Prevail have unveiled the official video for “Koschei”, one of the record’s most brutal and thought provoking tracks. Released via Sumerian Records, the video continues the cinematic universe surrounding the album while drawing on one of the most enduring figures in Slavic folklore.
The song takes its name from Koschei the Immortal, the mythical sorcerer whose death is hidden outside his body, making him impossible to kill by ordinary means. Rather than simply retelling the legend, frontman Alex Terrible uses it to explore themes of mortality, spirituality and what remains after physical death.
Explaining the inspiration behind the track, he says:
“The whole song is about the idea that even if you manage to discover how to kill Koschei, only his physical body dies. His essence, his soul, his energy lives on and is simply reborn into something else. It’s about learning, during your lifetime, to crystallise what people call the spirit or the soul, so that when your body dies, you don’t disappear with it. It’s also a reminder not to become obsessed with material things during your life, because when you die, you can’t take any of them with you.”
The video perfectly complements those ideas, pairing the band’s signature crushing heaviness with striking imagery rooted in Slavic mythology. It also reflects the darker, more ambitious direction of “Grizzly”, an album that combines punishing deathcore with cinematic storytelling.
