Chelsea Wolfe has released the video for “Seethe“, another piece of her forthcoming album “The Dark”, due on 21 August via Loma Vista Recordings.
There is something genuinely hypnotic about this song. Enchanting, mysterious, slightly unsettling, and beautifully dark. It pulls you in slowly. The lyrics add another layer to that atmosphere, with lines about watching, waiting, violence and seeing straight through someone. There is a real sense of menace there, but Chelsea Wolfe doesn’t need to push it too hard. The music does most of the work.
What I particularly like is the contrast between the darkness of the lyrics and the almost dreamlike quality of the music. It feels strangely calm while carrying something much more violent underneath. And then comes the ending. “Seethe” finishes brutally abruptly, almost as if someone simply switched off the recording button. No warning, no release, just silence. It leaves the song hanging in the air, waiting for something that will never come.
At this point I am genuinely curious to hear the whole record.
