British alt punk trio SNAYX are back with a pointed new single, “Gold Star”, alongside the announcement of their debut album, “GREED”, due for release on 19 February 2027 via Nettwerk Music Group. It’s a statement of intent from a band who have spent the past few years turning everyday frustrations into music designed to hit hard.
Pronounced Snakes, the Brighton based trio have built their reputation on the live circuit since releasing their debut single in 2021. Appearances at The Great Escape, Reading and Leeds, Download and Kendal Calling have helped establish their name, alongside support slots with Royal Blood and Nova Twins. Their live performances have also caught the attention of publications including NME and Kerrang!, with the former praising their ability to turn a small venue into a full blown punk rock riot.
Now, “Gold Star” gives them another target to aim at, and this time they’re taking a swing at conspicuous wealth, classism and the online personalities who mistake a fat wallet for an interesting personality.
“Gold Star”, a Middle Finger to the Cult of Money
Co written with Jordan Fish, known for his work with Bring Me The Horizon, Poppy and Architects, “Gold Star” tackles the modern obsession with status and material success. Think expensive cars, rounds of drinks bought for an audience and endless sermons about hard work from people convinced that money makes them better than everyone else.
SNAYX have little patience for that performance. As the band explain, the song focuses on the bloke flashing his cash at the bar while preaching about work ethic, alongside the misogyny and self importance associated with parts of the online manosphere. The target isn’t ambition itself. It’s the idea that financial success somehow excuses obnoxious behaviour, or that purchasing attention is a substitute for earning genuine respect.
It’s a subject that fits neatly into the band’s wider catalogue. Previous singles have tackled police abuse, social pressure, online addiction and the divisions that encourage people to turn against one another. “Gold Star” continues that thread, bringing the critique directly to the culture of hustle and conspicuous consumption.
“GREED”, Wanting More in a World That Already Has Too Much
The single introduces “GREED”, the trio’s first full length album, scheduled for release on 19 February 2027 through Nettwerk Music Group.
Across 13 tracks, the record examines the different things people chase, from money and power to attention, pleasure and love. According to the band, it’s a record that wants things to improve while remaining painfully aware of how hopeless life can sometimes feel.
Musically, SNAYX are also pushing beyond the straight ahead punk attack that first brought them attention. Recent releases have explored more melodic territory, while the new album incorporates industrial textures, electronic elements and psychedelia. Work with Jamie Hall of Tigercub and Spencer Tobias Williams of NOISY has helped shape that broader sonic direction.
The result promises a record that retains the physical force of their earlier material while allowing more room for experimentation. As the band have explained in coverage of the album announcement, they would rather experiment and discover what they can get away with than play it safe.
That willingness to take risks is particularly welcome in a scene where punk can sometimes become as predictable as the establishment it claims to oppose.
From Brighton’s Underground to the Festival Stages
SNAYX formed in 2019, releasing their debut single two years later. Since then, the trio have steadily expanded their audience through touring and festival appearances.
Their progress has been documented by the British music press. NME included them in its NME 100 list of artists to watch in 2025, while Kerrang! has followed their development through singles and EP releases. Dork also profiled the band in 2024, charting their journey from the underground towards a bigger audience.
Their earlier EP, “Better Days”, explored the pressure of social expectations and the daily grind, with the band discussing their desire to expand their sound without losing its aggression. Later releases, including “Strut”, “Brain Cellz” and “Nice Day 4 It”, continued their interest in the ways people navigate modern life.
With “GREED”, those themes now have a full album in which to develop.
“GREED” arrives on 19 February 2027 via Nettwerk Music Group.
