Carnifex Release New Single “Licking Love from a Knife” Ahead of “More Than Misery”

CARNIFEX have unleashed “Licking Love from a Knife”, the latest single from their forthcoming album “More Than Misery”, due out on 6 November via Sumerian Records. The new track tackles the aftermath of a toxic relationship, bringing a deeply personal subject into the California deathcore veterans’ uncompromising sound.

For vocalist Scott Ian Lewis, the song represents one of the album’s most personal moments. As he explains, “Licking Love from a Knife is his favourite track on the record, and he hopes it will connect with fans who have survived toxic relationships“.

That idea of survival runs through “More Than Misery”. Rather than simply revisiting old wounds, Lewis approaches the material from the other side of the experience, reflecting on pain without allowing it to define an entire life. The album title itself carries that message, suggesting that there is more to existence than the misery we endure.

Musically, CARNIFEX have brought their early deathcore instincts into the present. Guitars take centre stage, while orchestral arrangements add weight to the band’s established blend of death metal, blackened atmosphere and symphonic intensity. The material has also been written with the live setting firmly in mind.

Recorded in Tennessee over approximately five to six weeks, the album was produced with Zach Householder of Whitechapel and mixed by Jeff Dunne. The sessions gave the band more time than ever to develop, dismantle and rebuild their material.

“More Than Misery” is CARNIFEX’s first full length album for Sumerian Records. It follows the previously released singles “Roses & Rotting Corpses” and the title track, “More Than Misery”.

About Carnifex

Formed in Fallbrook, California, in 2005, CARNIFEX helped establish the foundations of deathcore through a sound shaped by death metal, black metal and the raw energy of the Southern California hardcore scene.

Led by vocalist Scott Ian Lewis and drummer Shawn Cameron, the band have spent more than two decades developing their sound across albums including “Dead In My Arms”, “Hell Chose Me”, “Die Without Hope”, “Slow Death”, “World War X” and “Necromanteum”.

With “More Than Misery”, CARNIFEX look back on the experiences that shaped them while pushing forward with a record built for the stage. Their latest single offers a glimpse of an album concerned with pain, recovery and the difficult business of coming out the other side.
