There are voices you recognise within seconds. Macy Gray has one of those voices.
That slightly cracked, smoky, unmistakably human voice has been part of the international soul and R&B landscape for more than two decades, ever since “I Try” turned her into a global star. Now, after a 16 year absence from the Tricity, Macy Gray is coming back to Gdańsk for a concert at B90 on 23 November 2026.
Gray has never been an artist who fits comfortably into a neat little box. Her music moves between soul, R&B, funk and jazz, with that extraordinary voice sitting right in the middle of it all. There is warmth in it, but also grit, humour, vulnerability and an edge that has always made her stand apart from more polished pop voices.
Macy Gray arrives in Poland as part of “The Trouble With The Truth Tour”, which also includes concerts in Łódź, Poznań and Wrocław. The Gdańsk show opens the Polish run on 23 November.
For anyone who discovered Gray through “On How Life Is”, her hugely successful 1999 debut, there is something rather satisfying about seeing that distinctive voice return to the stage after all these years. “I Try” remains the obvious calling card, but reducing Macy Gray to one enormous hit would miss the point. Her appeal has always been much broader than a single song, built around a distinctive musical personality that has survived changing fashions and the endless machinery of the music business.
More than two decades into her career, Gray remains an artist who sounds like herself.
