Fifty Years Of Oxygene, A New Album On The Horizon, And Three Polish Arena Shows. Jean Michel Jarre Is Ready To Take Electronic Music Into Its Next Dimension.

“Oxygene” by Jean Michel Jarre has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My father was probably listening to it when I was growing up, and its electronic sounds became part of the musical landscape of my childhood. I still have the album on vinyl at home today. Released in 1976, it helped bring electronic music to a worldwide audience, and fifty years later, Jarre is celebrating its legacy with his “OXYGENE & BEYOND” tour, which will bring three concerts to Poland in September 2027.

The “OXYGENE & BEYOND” tour arrives at Spodek in Katowice on 21 September, Atlas Arena in Łódź on 22 September, and ERGO ARENA on the Gdańsk and Sopot border on 24 September. The concerts will celebrate the anniversary of Jarre’s groundbreaking album while introducing music from his forthcoming studio album, scheduled for release in spring 2027.

For Polish audiences, this is a chance to experience a major new production from one of electronic music’s defining figures. And with the artist promising to perform some of his new material live for the first time, this will be about much more than revisiting the past.

Fifty Years Of Oxygene, And The Future Of Electronic Music

When “Oxygene” appeared in 1976, Jarre was exploring territory far removed from the guitar driven rock dominating much of the decade. Working with electronic instruments and analogue synthesis, he created a musical language that felt simultaneously futuristic and deeply atmospheric. The album became a landmark in the international rise of electronic music, influencing generations of artists who followed.

The anniversary will receive a major release of its own. On 20 November 2026, BMG will publish a special 50th anniversary edition of “Oxygene”, featuring a new 2026 stereo remaster, Dolby Atmos and 5.1 mixes, alongside additional archival material. For listeners who know every note, this promises a fresh opportunity to hear a classic recording in new formats. For newcomers, it offers an invitation to discover the album that helped shape Jarre’s musical universe.

But Jarre has no intention of treating his anniversary as a museum exhibition. He is currently working on a new studio album, and the “OXYGENE & BEYOND” tour will bring some of its music to the stage for the first time.

That is what makes this announcement particularly exciting. The concerts will connect a defining moment in electronic music history with an artist who continues to experiment, rather than simply repeat the formula that made his name.

A Live Experience Built on Sound and Vision

Jean Michel Jarre has spent decades expanding the possibilities of electronic performance. His concerts have become renowned for combining music with ambitious audiovisual technology, turning large scale performances into events that extend beyond the traditional concert format.

The “OXYGENE & BEYOND” tour promises an immersive journey through Jarre’s musical history and into a new phase of creative experimentation. Although the artist continues to perform internationally, a tour built around the 50th anniversary of “Oxygene”, accompanied by previously unheard live material from his forthcoming album, gives these dates a particular significance.

Jarre describes the tour as a celebration of where everything began and an invitation to imagine what comes next. His conclusion is characteristically direct: “The adventure continues”.

More Than a Tour, A Landmark Year for Jarre

The anniversary celebrations extend beyond the stage. On 5 November 2026, Thames & Hudson will publish “MACHINES: A History of Electronic Music”, a book written by Jarre exploring the evolution of electronic sound and the instruments that have shaped it.

Drawing on his extensive collection of electronic and electroacoustic instruments, the book traces a century of sonic experimentation, from analogue synthesis and the digital revolution to immersive multimedia and AI assisted creation. It offers another perspective on the curiosity that has driven Jarre throughout his career.

The tour announcement also coincides with Amsterdam Dance Event, where Jarre is scheduled to open the event’s 30th anniversary celebrations with a sold-out immersive performance. It is an appropriate setting for an artist whose work has consistently challenged the boundaries between electronic music, technology and live spectacle.

Taken together, the anniversary album, the book, the forthcoming studio release and the international tour make 2026 and 2027 significant years for Jarre and his audience.
