Battles – Juice B Crypts

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Battles just released their 4th album, “Juice B Crypts”. A little Free Rock, a little Free Jazz, a bit of Conceptual Music here & a hint of Techno/House there, and lots of Funk. A complex album, with intricate loops, crazy sounds & bloops. Far from being boring or inaccessible, this is music exploration at its finest, the 40 minutes long LP is full of inventiveness and modernism that will put you in a weird state of trance.

The duo – Ian Williams and John Stanier – made a brillant, refined, sexy & fun record to play. And you will play it again and again as it is never dull & annoying.

The duo invited plenty of talented guests on the album, with the likes of Xenia Rubinos, Jon Anderson, Sal Principato, Prairie WWWW, Shabazz Palaces and Tune-Yards.

Titanium 2 Step (feat. Sal Principato)” is taken from Battles’ new album “Juice B Crypts“, available October 18 on WARP
