Zeal & Ardor is a project of links affecting ghosts, black metal and various electronic deviations, which was ultimately created as a forum joke? Nothing could go wrong here, and everything did. Zeal & Ardor, from the moment of their debut “Devil Is Fine“, continues to surprise listeners, throwing everything they have at hand into the cavernous bag of inspiration. In such cases it is easy to get over-saturated, but the troupe led by Manuel Gagneux eclecticism only as one of the means, not an end in itself. The new Zeal & Ardor album – simply “Zeal & Ardor” – is the result of a successful connection with Manuel Gagneux’s passion, and the British Metal Hammer, thanks to which it is considered one of the best released in the first half of 2022. Put on your robes, pull out the candelabra from the wardrobe and set out with the Swiss squad on a detailed trip to those less crowded corners of hell.

Sooma is music that each of us often needs. Not extreme to the edge of metal, not experimentation, but crazy alternative rock, where there are noises and hits are one. Also, the Swiss tend not to fuss because they’re straight forward – distortion cranked up to the max, noiserock/punk riffs buzzing all the time, and of course a sweeping chorus and a “fuck you” approach. Isn’t it for this element of rebellion and fear that we fell in love with rock? Of course we loved it, so run to the audience of these three swashbucklers. You won’t regret it.

Ketha have always been a phenomenon for the few, but the band is now louder than important, because it is ruled by even greater passion, and the numbers are better than important. Their music is still bizarre, mostly undefinable metal, but more condensed. Today’s incarnation of Ketha is ruled by dense trance and pulsating parts, and rhythmic breaks are still visible, although they give way to the power of a swinging riff. They define their music for a dying world
