The Turkish duo have built their sound around the darker side of the 1980s, taking inspiration from bands such as The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox, while adding something entirely their own, minimalist Turkish poetry.
The story of She Past Away began in 2006, when vocalist and guitarist Volkan Caner and bassist İdris Akbulut started writing songs together. In 2009, Doruk Öztürkcan joined the band, taking over electronic drums. İdris Akbulut later left the group in 2015, leaving Caner and Öztürkcan to continue She Past Away as a duo.
Their first full length album, “Belirdi Gece”, arrived in 2012, followed by “Narin Yalnızlık” in 2015. With these records, She Past Away established a distinctive sound built from cold electronics, hypnotic rhythms, dark guitar lines and Caner’s deep vocals.
The band’s music has a strong connection to the classic dark wave and post punk tradition, but the use of Turkish throughout their songs gives it a character that immediately separates them from the countless bands influenced by the same 1980s scene.
In 2019, they returned with “Disko Anksiyete”, released through Fabrika Records, pushing their electronic side further while keeping the stripped down, hypnotic approach that had become their signature.
Now She Past Away are coming to Gdańsk.
On 28 October 2026, Drizzly Grizzly will become the setting for an evening of dark wave, electronic rhythms and guitars that sound like they have been waiting patiently in the shadows since the 1980s.
If names like The Cure, The Sisters of Mercy and Clan of Xymox mean something to you, this is one concert worth putting in the calendar.
