Igorrr, Amenra, Der Weg Einer Freiheit & Hangman’s Chair – 31/03/2023 – B90, Gdańsk

After delivering a spectacular performance in Warsaw and at Mystic Festival 2022, Igorrr is set to return to the country accompanied by some exceptional guests. The musicians will be promoting their latest album, “Spirituality And Distortion“, which was released in 2020 under Metal Blade Records. Joining Igorrr on stage will be Amenra – an icon in Belgian sludge and post-metal, the French doom collective Hangman’s Chair, and the German post-black metal band Der Weg Einer Freiheit.

Igorrr is best known for their unique blend of alternative and experimental metal. In fact, a comment under one of their tracks on YouTube suggests that their sound is best described as “backpack music”. While this may seem ridiculous, it’s hard to find a better definition of what Gautier Serre creates in his songs. Everything happens in the works of this French eccentric, and we can only imagine what lurks in the inscrutable recesses of his mind.

Amenra, on the other hand, has been captivating fans of extreme metal since their debut album “Mass III“. With each subsequent release, they have only deepened the already accumulated hype. This Belgian sludge and post-metal icon is known for playing music that bursts with negative emotions, providing listeners with spiritual experiences that last for years. The Church of Ra initiative that unites masses of people is just one example of how Amenra takes a holistic approach to music.

Der Weg Einer Freiheit, whose name can be translated to “the way of freedom,” is a leader in post-black metal. While this trend may no longer be one of the leading forces of modern extreme metal, bands like Der Weg Einer Freiheit still have a lot to offer in terms of stylistic freedom and the search for new paths. They continue to push the boundaries of what is possible in post-black metal and are always experimenting with new sounds and techniques.

Hangman’s Chair, a doom metal and shoegaze band, struggled for a long time to gain the interest of stage makers. However, their gradual shift away from coarse stoner rock towards gothic doom metal, supported by shoegazing, has helped them gain a wider audience. Their latest album “A Loner” is a testament to their power, multitude of exciting melodies, and maximum sincerity. While their lyrics may deal with the darkest types of depression, their music is able to attract everyone. Hangman’s Chair is proof that Type O Negative and Slowdive could easily have a child.
