The Dutch Nordic folk project, led by Jonathan Barendsma, has released the official video for “Urðr“, a track from the new EP “Nornir“, released on 21 October 2026.
In Norse mythology, Urðr is one of the three Norns, the mysterious figures responsible for weaving the fate of gods and humans beneath the roots of Yggdrasil. She represents the past, the things that have already happened and the memories that remain long after we are gone.
The lyrics follow that idea, speaking of ancient voices, forgotten dreams and the memories carried by the earth. There is something rather beautiful about the central thought: even when people disappear, their stories remain woven into the world.
Written by Jonathan Barendsma and produced alongside Leon Lieffijn, “Urðr” continues Gealdýr‘s fascination with bringing ancient Nordic traditions into contemporary folk music.
Urðr sits by the well,
Weaving stories from the past.
She spins threads from bone,
From human blood and memories.
The earth remembers every step,
And voices from the past still echo.
Deep beneath Yggdrasil’s roots,
The memories of everyone remain.
A sound breaks through the silence,
And forgotten dreams awaken.
The water carries the voices of the dead,
To the heart of the world.
Blood flows through the stream,
And tears fall upon the stone.
Urðr brings happiness and sorrow together,
Weaving them into the story of the world.
