Ithilien, Skálmöld & Eluveitie – B90

I can’t say that I’m a connoisseur of folk metal. To be honest, this type of metal is totally unknown to me. And after last evening in B90 with Ithilien, Skálmöld and Eluveitie. I’m wondering why I never gave it a chance before. Because it was just excellent. And with Eluveitie, it even reminded me of Ireland few times [I will write about them on a separate article].

I absolutely loved Skálmöld. Well, they were the least folk I think, might be for this reason. No old instrument on stage. Just a keyboard instead to replace them. More metal or thrash than Ithilien or Eluveitie. It’s a shame they played such a short gig. While the attendance was scarce during the first part, people started coming in in numbers during Skálmöld.

Anne Murphy from Eluveitie went on stage with them to play on “Narfi”. The crowd really enjoyed it.

At the end of their set, the audience was ready for the main part.

Eluveitie. A very eclectic and successfully done gig, a nice blend of pure folk metal with Celtic/Irish music. They stopped in the middle of the concert to offer us a very nice acoustic section, it’s then that memories of Irish pubs came back to me. Entertaining concert.

The atmosphere was really friendly, they had a good contact with the audience – unfortunately it was a relatively small audience compared to some of the big guns that came to B90 this year, but nonetheless, the crowd was amazing. You could feel that everybody enjoyed being there. The band, the fans and me.
