The much-anticipated debut album from rising punk band Winona Fighter, “My Apologies To The Chef“, has finally arrived. The album, released via Rise Records, is now available for fans to stream or purchase. Accompanying the release is the music video for “Talk“, a song that reflects the band’s experience with public scrutiny and online trolls.
Winona Fighter’s frontwoman, Coco Kinnon, describes the album as a deeply personal and raw project, recorded entirely in a home studio. “It was a dream scenario – just me, Dan, and Austin working in our home studio from pre-production to sending it off for mastering“. This DIY approach gives the album an authentic, unpolished sound that captures the band’s gritty punk energy.
For Kinnon, the release of “My Apologies To The Chef” is a milestone in the band’s journey. “I couldn’t think of a better way to introduce the band. Fourteen hard-hitting tracks, straight from a guest bedroom or garage. It’s raw, full of grit and emotion”. She describes the album as a “love letter to punk rock” and hopes that both old and new fans will connect with its energy and message.
One of the standout tracks, “Talk“, explores the pressures of increasing visibility and the negative attention that comes with it. “It’s about feeling like your name is always in someone’s mouth. The more attention we get, the more we have to deal with trolls, insecure people, and even other artists trying to take us down with rumours“. The song’s music video, created with We’re All Gonna Die, brings this theme to life through a surreal, exaggerated version of Kinnon’s public persona. “Fights, getting kicked out of bars, breaking rules, all while looking like a zombie. It felt like a parody of a biopic“.
“My Apologies To The Chef” features previous singles like “R U Famous“, “Attention“, “Swear To God That I’m (Fine)“, and “I’m In The Market To Please No One“, and has already garnered attention from major music outlets, including Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, and Alternative Press. The band has also landed spots on prominent Spotify and Apple Music playlists, further solidifying their place in the punk scene.
For Winona Fighter, this album is the culmination of years of hard work and belief in their craft. “All we ever said when we were grinding with no one backing us was, ‘we just need one person to believe in us,’ and now we have all of you. So, thank you for letting us create, play, and live our dream“.
