Few bands have managed to capture the bittersweet essence of youth and aging with as much sincerity as The Lemonheads. For decades, Evan Dando’s cult band has carved a unique path through the music scene, weaving together strands of melodic alternative rock, punk urgency, and folk introspection into something unmistakably their own. With a career that has weathered trends and personal turmoil alike, The Lemonheads remain beloved for their unpretentious honesty and the emotional clarity of their songs.

This year, they’re back in full force. The Lemonheads are heading out on tour again, revisiting the classics that defined a generation while also showcasing a vibrant new chapter in their story. For longtime fans and curious newcomers alike, this tour promises a journey through both the golden years and fresh terrain, with Evan Dando once again at the helm.

At the heart of their return is a new single, “Deep End” a song that reaffirms The Lemonheads’ gift for blending beauty and melancholy. Featuring J Mascis (Dinosaur Jr.) and longtime collaborator Juliana Hatfield, “Deep End” is a layered, atmospheric track that rides between disillusionment and dreamy resilience. Its accompanying video, crafted by Surreal Hotel Arts, brings the song’s emotional texture to life in vivid, almost surreal visuals.

On the B-side is “Sad Cinderella”, a haunting and heartfelt cover of a lesser-known song by the late Townes Van Zandt. Together, these two tracks form a perfectly mismatched pair – beautifully ill-balanced, as Dando might put it – exploring life’s emotional peaks and valleys with poetic insight. It’s a testament to Evan Dando’s esoteric musical sensibility: a reverence for melody, misfits, and moments of raw clarity.

Both songs will appear on The Lemonheads’ forthcoming album “Love Chant“, set to be released this fall by Fire Records. It’s their first major release in several years, and early signs suggest it will be a return to form – marked by both sonic nostalgia and newfound depth. To celebrate the single’s release, a limited edition 12-inch vinyl – just 500 copies – will drop on June 13, making it a coveted item for collectors and fans alike.

But perhaps the most exciting aspect of this announcement is the band’s upcoming tour. With Dando leading the charge and a refreshed energy behind them, The Lemonheads will be revisiting their classic catalog – songs like “Into Your Arms”, “It’s a Shame About Ray”, and “My Drug Buddy” – while also giving audiences a first taste of “Love Chant“. It’s a chance to see one of alternative rock’s most enduring acts not as a nostalgia trip, but as a band that still has something vital and immediate to say.

The Lemonheads’ ability to tap into the ache and beauty of everyday life – without pretense or irony – has always been their secret weapon. This tour and new release seem poised to remind us why they mattered then, and why they still matter now. Whether you grew up with their songs or are discovering them for the first time, 2025 is the perfect time to dive back in.
