The Horrors are back, and this time with a whole new energy. Having followed their sound over the years, I’ve always been captivated by the worlds they create. Their latest chapter promises even more, offering a deeply gothic vibe with the single “The Silence That Remains” leading the way. It is a perfect reflection of their ability to evoke a mood that’s both unsettling and intriguing. This is a band that’s always had an aura of mystery, but now, with a new line-up and fresh direction, they seem poised to push even further.

The new track marks the beginning of their sixth studio album “Night Life“, scheduled for release in March next year. The heart of this new era revolves around long-standing members Faris Badwan (vocals) and Rhys Webb (bass), but the group has expanded with fresh additions like Amelia Kidd on keyboards and Jordan Cook on drums. Their revamped sound feels like a rebirth – dark, edgy, and driven by a blend of distorted bass, eerie synths, and skittering percussion.
Listening to “The Silence That Remains”, it’s clear that The Horrors are embracing their gothic roots. The song opens with a hypnotic bassline slowly joined by Badwan’s vocals, now shared with Kidd, that heighten the tension, making this single feel like a journey through personal reflection and letting go of the past.
I’ve always appreciated how they weave a sense of unease into their music. The album, according to the band, will explore the thoughts that emerge in the dead of night, when the world is quiet, and your mind runs free.
“The Silence that Remains” is a 3am insomnia walk through the city, retracing our steps and putting the past to bed. Our new chapter is beginning and we’re looking forward to taking you with us. The Horrors are never-ending”
That alone is enough to make me excited for what’s next.
The Horrors have also announced a string of intimate shows leading up to the album’s release, with dates across the UK. If their summer teaser gigs were anything to go by, these performances will be a treat for anyone wanting to catch their new line-up in action. With tracks like “The Silence That Remains”, they are clearly a band that demands further exploration, both live and in the studio.
