Lizzard is a trio from France that mixes the freshness and lightness of alternative rock with the difficult tonal constructions of progressive metal. Their latest studio creation is last year’s album “Eroded” (Pelagic Records)
Oceanhoarse are playing heavy metal. Just. Look for powerful riffs, thoughtful melody and uncouth energy in their songs. The Finns released their debut album “Dead Reckoning” in 2021 via Noble Demon.
Soen (Sweden) progressive rock, prog metal: melodic, heavy, intricately structured and varied – these were the words used by Martin Lopez, drummer from Opeth and Amon Amarth, when asked how he would describe the music of his band Soen. Reviewers most often attribute to the Swedish band the patches “progressive rock” and “progmetal”. Soen began to function in earnest in the second decade of the 21st century. The band has visited Poland several times, gained a lot of fans and even gained the status of one of the stars of the Prog In Park festival. Back then, the brilliant Steve DiGiorgio, who had come through the line-up in the beginning, was no longer in the group, but the great vocalist Joel Ekelöf was already there. Soen’s music oscillates around the climates of Pink Floyd, Katatonia, Tool or Opeth. In the recordings, the Swedish crew eagerly use strings (violin, cello), which can be heard beautifully, for example on the album “Lotus” released in 2019, where Emela Jeremias added a quartet of beautiful sounds to the string. In addition to Martin and Joel, the line-up of Soen is complemented by Stefan Stenberg (bass), the Canadian Cody Ford (guitar) and Lars Åhlund (keyboards, guitar).

Lizzard (France) alternative rock, prog metal: Lizzard is perhaps one of the most surprising formations in the world of modern prog rock. They are not afraid of hits and riffs with clear concert potential, but they are just as close to the elegance of art-rock or guitar harmonics taken from post-rock. Additionally, despite the multitude of influences, they know how to write hits. Could it be better?

Oceanhoarse (Finland) heavy metal: They themselves claim that they play heavy metal and it’s hard to find a better description of their work. Oceanhoarse is a creation that captures the power of live metal to the maximum: heads and fists walk by themselves, and testosterone levels exceed the permissible doses. There’s a groove, great melody and chorus that will anchor you in your head for hours.
