Seven Hours After Violet, the alternative metal supergroup led by Shavo Odadjian (System of a Down), has unveiled a visceral and timely new music video for “Float”, aligning poignantly with May’s Mental Health Awareness Month. The track, a standout from their self-titled debut album released in October 2024, explores the emotional undercurrents of anxiety, depression, and isolation – while still casting a lifeline of hope.
The band itself is a collision of creative forces. Co-founded by Odadjian and multi-platinum producer Morgoth (Michael Montoya of Winds of Plague), Seven Hours After Violet also features Taylor Barber of Left to Suffer on vocals, Alejandro Aranda of Scarypoolparty on guitar and backing vocals, and Josh Johnson of Winds of Plague on drums. This lineup blends brutal precision with melodic depth, resulting in a sound that pushes the limits of heavy music.

Directed by Glen Matheny and co-directed by Odadjian, the “Float” video tells the story of a young woman grappling with the heaviness of mental health struggles. One particularly powerful scene shows her fully clothed and submerged in a bathtub – symbolizing the feeling of being emotionally underwater. These visuals are intercut with footage of the band’s cathartic performance, creating a stark yet empathetic narrative.
“The song speaks to the threat of suicide, but more than that, it’s about hope – the push and pull between pain and recovery”, says Odadjian.
“We want this track to be a beacon for anyone battling those inner wars“.
Vocalist Taylor Barber adds:
“Float is about the feeling of waking up with depression rooted deep inside you. Feeling like a ghost in a shell – existing but not living. It’s about being consumed by the weight of the world without confronting the inner battles. It’s important for us to express our emotions and let people know they’re not alone”.
Following the buzz from their single “Radiance”, which broke into the Top 20 on Active Rock Radio, “Float” affirms Seven Hours After Violet’s commitment to tackling serious issues through emotionally potent music. Their debut album, released via Sumerian Records’ imprint 1336 Records, blends metalcore, alt-metal, and experimental sounds, carving a distinct niche in the modern heavy music scene.
