A Legacy of Innovation and Influence
Formed in 1979 by Jon and Criss Oliva in Florida, Savatage quickly gained attention for their unique blend of power metal, classical influences, and theatrical compositions. Their breakthrough came with the 1987 album “Hall of the Mountain King“, a milestone that introduced the band to a global audience. Subsequent albums like “Gutter Ballet” (1989), “Streets: A Rock Opera” (1991), and “Edge of Thorns” (1993) cemented their place as pioneers of the symphonic metal genre.
The band’s career was marked by both triumph and tragedy. The untimely death of guitarist Criss Oliva in 1993 was a devastating blow, but the band continued to evolve, often incorporating elaborate storytelling and orchestral arrangements in their music. Their 1997 release, “The Wake of Magellan“, and 2001’s “Poets and Madmen“ showcased their maturity and musical ambition.
The upcoming tour will feature long-time vocalist Zak Stevens, joined by guitarists Chris Caffery and Al Pitrelli, bassist Johnny Lee Middleton, and drummer Jeff Plate. While founding member Jon Oliva will not be touring due to health issues, he remains closely involved with the band’s preparations and studio efforts.
A New Chapter Begins
This 2025 European tour marks the band’s first headlining trek in the region since 2002. Fans can expect a dynamic setlist that spans their legendary catalog, complete with theatrical flair, technical mastery, and emotional depth.
Savatage’s return is not to be missed. Stay tuned for more announcements and exclusive content as the band gears up for what promises to be a historic tour.
