Rotting Christ Celebrates 35 Years of Darkness with “Live in Lycabettus”

There are bands that play music, and then there are bands that summon something deeper – something primal, something eternal. For 35 years, Rotting Christ has been one of those bands. Their name alone has stirred controversy, defiance, and devotion in equal measure, but it’s their music – layered, atmospheric, and undeniably powerful – that has cemented them as one of black metal’s most revered forces.

And now, on April 4, 2025, they have gifted us with a new chapter in their legacy: “35 Years of Evil Existence – Live in Lycabettus“.

Recorded on June 29, 2024, in their home city of Athens, Greece, this album captures a performance that was like a ritual under the stars. Lycabettus Hill Theater, an ancient and breathtaking venue overlooking the city, was the perfect place for this monumental event. You could feel the weight of history in the air – the kind of night where music, energy, and mythology collide.

Clocking in at nearly two hours, the setlist spans the band’s entire career, pulling deep from their well of blackened anthems. From the ominous poetry of “The Raven” to the punishing rhythms of “Demonon Vrosis“, from the sheer fury of “Χ Ξ Σ “to the atmospheric depths of “Among Two Storms“, and, of course, the blistering classic “The Sign of Evil Existence” – this album is both a journey and a celebration.

It’s one thing to listen to Rotting Christ’s music in the studio, but live? That’s where the true magic happens.

I’ve followed this band since my first concert, and let me tell you – they are beyond incredible on stage. There’s an intensity, a rawness, an almost religious fervor in the way they perform. Their music is not just like invoked, like an ancient spell conjured from the depths of time.

With this release, fans can now experience that unholy energy again and again. And with multiple formats – digital, a deluxe 10-page Digipak CD, and various limited-edition triple vinyl releases (black, gold marbled, orange marbled, and solid gold) – there’s a version for every kind of collector.

But the celebration doesn’t end with the album. To mark this milestone, Rotting Christ is hitting the road once again, this time for “The Unholy Trinity 2025” tour, alongside Behemoth and Satyricon.

Starting April 4 in Vienna, Austria, this tour will sweep across Europe, with stops in Munich, Berlin, Milan, Paris, London, and beyond. It’s a lineup that promises to be one of the most powerful gatherings of black metal forces in recent memory.

Thirty-five years in, and Rotting Christ is still standing. They have carved their name in the annals of extreme metal history, and “Live in Lycabettus” is a testament to their unshakable legacy.

And it’s one hell of a way to mark 35 years of evil existence.
