Toronto punk heroes Pup are bottling lightning. Fresh off unleashing their latest album “Who Will Look After The Dogs?“, the band have announced a very special live record, “Megacity Madness (The Official Live Recordings)“, capturing a moment only Toronto got to witness in the flesh.
Earlier this year, Pup – Stefan Babcock, Nestor Chumak, Zack Mykula, and Steve Sladkowski – tore through a “Tour de Toronto”, six shows across their hometown with each venue bigger than the last. It kicked off in a house, then snaked through the clubs they’ve been sweating up for the last decade, the same rooms where they learned how to be the band they are now. Friends like Jeff Rosenstock and NOBRO jumped on along the way, turning every night into a minor civic event.
Those intimate gigs are gone, but “Megacity Madness (The Official Live Recordings)” is the receipt. Recorded across all six shows, the 13-track album is designed as a love letter to the city and to the band’s own history, a live document that knows exactly where it comes from. In proper Pup fashion, it’s not just “a live album”, it’s a very Pup live album, chaotic, communal, and proudly rooted in Toronto’s DIY-to-clubs pipeline.
There’s more: the band are rolling this out alongside a wider Megacity Madness universe, including a video series, a “megazine” and more, all orbiting the same era of “Who Will Look After The Dogs?” and that run of Toronto shows.
For now, the key thing is this: “Megacity Madness (The Official Live Recordings)” will only be available on vinyl, exclusively through the band. No half measures, no easy streaming hit, if you want to relive the sweat and shout-alongs from that six-night sprint, you’re going to have to commit to wax, needle, and the whole ritual. Which, frankly, feels exactly right for a band who just turned their hometown into a concept and then pressed it into a record.
