Scottish rock band Primal Scream is set to embark on their “Come Ahead” European tour in 2025, following the release of their album “Come Ahead” in November 2024. The tour will begin in Oslo on June 4th and will cover major cities across Europe.
“Come Ahead” features 11 tracks with deeply personal lyrics by frontman Bobby Gillespie. The album was created between 2022 and 2024, with Gillespie writing lyrics before composing the music – a first for the band. Producer David Holmes and guitarist Andrew Innes collaborated on the album, recording sessions in Belfast, London, and Los Angeles.
The album cover showcases a photograph of Gillespie’s late father, Robert Gillespie Senior, taken by artist Jim Lambie. Themes of social justice and class are prominent throughout the album. Gillespie describes the record as carrying “a message of hope… tempered with an acceptance of the worst side of human nature“.
Since their previous album, Gillespie has engaged in various projects, including his 2021 memoir “Tenement Kid“, which won Rough Trade’s Book of the Year and an NME Award for Best Music Book. The band also celebrated the 30th anniversary of “Screamadelica” with sold-out UK shows. Gillespie collaborated with Paul Weller on “Soul Wandering”, Jehnny Beth on “Utopian Ashes”, and contributed to other musical projects, providing a creative foundation for “Come Ahead”.
