Belgian psychedelic sludge metal band Pothamus has released a new music video “Zhikarta”, an opening track from their forthcoming album “Abur”, which is set to be released on 14 February 2025 via Pelagic Records. The video showcases their signature immersive style, blending hypnotic drones, tribal percussion, and raw energy to explore existential themes that run through the album.
“Zhikarta” serves as a bold introduction to “Abur”, reflecting the band’s evolving sound with its heavy and ritualistic energy. It follows the earlier video release for “Savartuum Avur”, a track that explorer themes of chaos as a creative force and the pursuit of spiritual unity. Together, these singles highlight the band’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of the sludge and post-metal genres.
The album, a follow-up to their 2020 release “Raya”, represents a 44-minute journey through themes of nature, animism, and interconnectedness. It features innovative use of instruments like the Surpeti, a traditional drone instrument, along with their distinctive blend of haunting melodies and dynamic intensity.
