Norse Folk Band Wardruna Just Released Stunning Video “Birna”

Wardruna has released an awe-inspiring music video for their new single “Birna,” the title track from their forthcoming album, set to arrive on January 24, 2025 via Sony Music and By Norse Music. This hypnotic piece of Viking folk, directed by Tuukka Koski, was filmed in the breathtaking landscapes of Rondane National Park in Norway. The visuals, produced by Breakfast Helsinki and Ragnarok Film, perfectly complement the song’s profound themes.

Birna“, meaning “she-bear” in Old Norse, is a meditative dialogue between humanity and the bear, a figure revered in Nordic traditions. According to Wardruna’s Einar Selvik, the track reflects on humanity’s long-standing fascination with the bear, admiring and emulating its strength and independence while acknowledging the need to respectfully coexist with nature. Selvik emphasizes the bear’s role as a “mother and shepherd of the vanishing woods“, and the album seeks to reexamine our relationship with the wild while advocating for its preservation.

Additionally, Wardruna will release a Blu-ray/DVD titled “Live at the Acropolis” on the same date, showcasing their 2023 performance at the iconic Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens.
