Miss Velvet, that striking and fearless singer, has once more captivated music enthusiasts with her latest single release, “Pistols at Dawn“, a strong rock anthem that showcases her distinctive voice. The song is a preview to her highly anticipated EP, “Triptych” released today on her own label, Mother Ride Records and distributed by The Orchard/Sony.
“Pistols at Dawn” is a battlefield of sorts for Miss Velvet’s intense and powerful vocals and a pyrotechnic instrumental arrangement. Blending traditional rock influences with a modern avant-garde twist, the song is full of energy and is guaranteed to be a memorable addition to her impressive resume.
The “Triptych” release is a full sensory audio-visual experience. The EP is accompanied by an impressive short film directed by Gus Black (whose credits also include work with Greta Van Fleet, Phoebe Bridgers, and Teddy Swims). Shot in the vast, surreal landscape of the Mojave Desert, the film captures to perfection Miss Velvet’s artistic vision.
An Artist Predestined to Shine
Miss Velvet’s journey to this point has been far from normal. She grew up in New York with theatre and opera around her since childhood and witnessed the magic on and off stage. This exposure gave her a passion for performing that would see her find her own voice, a voice that is reminiscent of rock legends Janis Joplin, Robert Plant, and Steven Tyler.
It was not without difficulty that she made it to the top. The music world was initially baffled by her – her dramatic appearance juxtaposed with her incredibly powerful and raw voice. But Miss Velvet did not follow the rule book and paved her own way, a way that would see her touring abroad with her funk-rock outfit, Miss Velvet and the Blue Wolf, and supporting George Clinton himself.
Following a period of personal crisis that included her former group disbanding, having a child, and experiencing an identity crisis, Miss Velvet found herself standing at a crossroads. Rather than retreat, she used this time to reinvent. Partnering with producer and songwriter Esjay Jones (whose resume includes work with Billy Corgan and Dave Navarro), she began crafting a new chapter in her music career that would see her release her 2023 solo debut album, “Traveler“.
“No matter what craziness happened in life, I always have music and family, and when I step into the stage persona of Miss Velvet, maybe it’s like a painter picking up a brush, or a dancer making a new dance – my music and style is just my creative spirit that I’m able to unleash,” she concluded. “Nothing to lose because it’s my Miss Velvet who brings shape and sound to the emotions of my life! She’s authentically me; she is what’s at my core and she is ever evolving.”
“Triptych” is a step further still and brings all of Miss Velvet’s artistic personality to bear. The three-part EP is a very personal journey that starts with “Pistols at Dawn“, followed by “Strut“, and finally “Hallelujah“. Every song is a step towards overcoming betrayal and personal hardship and is as powerful and as unconventional as it is to hear in music today.
Not only is Miss Velvet a singer, she is also a style icon. Her walks on major fashion shows in Paris, Milan, and New York have established her as a respected trendsetter. From performing on stage to walking on the red carpet, she has a look that is unmatched for elegance and rock ‘n’ roll rebelliousness.
In “Triptych“, Miss Velvet takes you on a deeply personal quest of self-evolution and artistic freedom. As she walks toward her next chapter in her music career, it is clear that Miss Velvet is a force to be reckoned with – a still-growing musician who is staying true to her nature.
