Finnish metal has never been particularly interested in staying neatly inside the lines, and King Satan take that attitude to another level.
Founded in Tampere in 2015 by multi instrumentalist and producer King Aleister Satan, the band have spent the last decade building a strange little kingdom somewhere between industrial metal, extreme metal, electronic music, shock rock and outright theatrical chaos. They call it “death metal disco”. It is a ridiculous description until you actually hear the music, at which point it starts making an alarming amount of sense.
Their fifth studio album, “Black Magick Abraxas“, arrives on 6 November 2026 through Blood Blast Distribution, and judging by the material already released, King Satan are not suddenly interested in behaving themselves.
The album has already produced several very different previews of what is coming. “Black Magick Rock ‘N’ Roll” features Finnish blues guitarist Erja Lyytinen, an unlikely collaboration that somehow sounds completely logical once you understand how King Satan operate. The two acts first crossed paths at SaariHelvetti, where they saw each other’s performances and connected afterwards. The result is a collision between the band’s industrial, groove driven madness and Lyytinen’s blues guitar.
Then came “Light Of Darkness“, a track that apparently regards the phrase industrial metal as a loose suggestion rather than a binding contract. King Aleister Satan described it as industrial metal for people who do not like industrial metal, combining blast beats with disco rhythms and influences ranging from symphonic metal and classical music to religious music. In other words, exactly the sort of musical recipe that should probably not work, but does.
And because apparently there was still room for another curveball, King Satan followed it with “Fire In The Hole“. The song’s accompanying video was filmed in Tampere and was inspired by a rather surreal idea involving the writings of philosophers Søren Kierkegaard and Diogenes. Even by King Satan standards, it is an impressively strange way to arrive at a metal single.
There is also “(You Drive Me) Crazy“, their gloriously unexpected take on Britney Spears. Rather than treating the original as something sacred and untouchable, the band have transformed it into another piece of their particular musical universe. King Aleister Satan has explained that the song reflects the band’s affection for late 1990s and early 2000s pop music, while also making the point that a good song remains a good song regardless of genre.
That willingness to throw apparently incompatible ingredients into the same cauldron has been central to King Satan from the beginning. Originally conceived as a solo studio project, the band evolved into a full live group, developing a reputation for energetic performances and a theatrical identity that sits somewhere between metal concert, cabaret and occult carnival. They have toured across Europe and played alongside names including Deathstars, Turmion Kätilöt and Gothminister, as well as appearing at festivals including Tuska and Masters Of Rock. According to Lost In Music, their touring history has taken them to 19 countries.
The current lineup brings together King Aleister Satan on vocals, keyboards and programming, Hekate “Kate” Boss on keyboards and vocals, EF 13 on guitar, Jerry Rock’n’roll on bass and Pete Hellraiser on drums.
And beneath all the leather, electronics, occult imagery and deliberately provocative humour, there is something more interesting happening. King Satan have always mixed their darker themes with absurdity, philosophy and a certain refusal to take conventional rock seriousness too seriously. Their music can be sleazy, aggressive, catchy and occasionally downright bizarre, but the theatrical excess is part of the point.
“Black Magick Abraxas” looks set to push that formula further.
The album will feature nine tracks, including “Black Magick Rock ‘N’ Roll“, “Light Of Darkness“, “Fire In The Hole“, “Hate Me Baby“, “Abraxas Rising“, “Far Beyond Good And Evil“, “The Devil Made Me Do It“, “Down By The Sins” and the CD and LP bonus track “Ride The Lion“.
For anyone who likes their metal with a filthy groove, their electronics with some actual teeth and their rock’n’roll with a healthy disregard for good taste, King Satan are preparing another trip into their particular carnival.
