Varsovie has released a powerful new single, a rework of Joy Division‘s classic track “Leaders of Men“, as part of their forthcoming special LP “Déviation“, set to release on November 28. This cover captures the intensity of the original while adding Varsovie’s own dark, atmospheric twist, offering us a fresh & faithful homage to the track that helped shape post-punk history.
I have only discovered Varsovie in 2021, and since, I’ve been captivated by their music. Their blend of post-punk and gothic rock has a haunting quality that deeply touches me, and their fierce energy never fails to lift my spirits. Their last 2023 album solidified my admiration for their unique sound – intense, reflective, and wholly engaging.
With their forthcoming “Déviation“, Varsovie will incorporate, alongside 5 songs from their last 5 albums, a set of covers that nod to their musical influences. Besides the Joy Division track, the EP will include covers of the iconic Bauhaus, Alain Bashung, Jean-Louis Murat and also, a cover of the polish post-punk band Siekiera. Songs that have left a mark on them.
That album is a special release that will celebrate their almost 20 years of existence.
