The indie-rock world just got a jolt of high-energy dynamism as Dubinski, the sibling quartet originally from North Yorkshire and now based in Edinburgh, unleash their latest single, “Feel It“. The track, a ferocious blast of fidgety rock’n’roll energy, is the latest glimpse into their upcoming album, “What Is Your Definition of Happiness?“, set to drop on March 7th, 2025, in LP, CD, and digital formats.
Dubinski – composed of the Gaine brothers, Eugene (vocals, guitar), Fergus (lead guitar), Donal (bass), and Eion (drums) – are making serious waves with their propulsive rhythms and staccato guitars, reminiscent of early Franz Ferdinand. “Feel It” clocks in at just over two minutes but leaves an impact that lingers far beyond its runtime.
“This song is inspired by the notion that behaviors and thought processes are inherently passed down or learned from watching and experiencing someone wiser than one’s self“.
“Again it hints at the idea or self progression and self discovery, acknowledge a mistake or an experience and learn from it, grow with it. Bring a positive from something that was not so”.
And I have to say, I really felt this track. This is rock that makes you want to dance and fully appreciate the moment. But it also speaks to something deeper – yes, we learn from our mistakes, but some lessons come at a cost. The song reminds us to recognize those experiences, understand them, and grow from them.
The accompanying video for “Feel It“, animated by Luke Toth, echoes these themes of challenging established norms through anti-establishment behavior. The visuals draw inspiration from the classic 1969 film “Kes” and the abstract animations of Len Lye, adding another layer to the song’s rebellious spirit.
Dubinski’s upcoming album, “What Is Your Definition of Happiness?“, opens with the previously released single “Downtown Operation“, a socially conscious indie anthem featuring a sample from trade unionist Arthur Scargill. From there, the record dives into themes of twisted romance, personal struggles, and the trials of being a DIY live band. Musically, the band blends the raw energy of The Clash with the angular precision of Maxïmo Park, the post-punk swagger of Parquet Courts, and even a hint of Paul Simon’s melodic sensibility. Dubinski have carved out a sound that stands alongside contemporaries like Fontaines D.C., Benefits, and Yard Act – delivering anthems with a message.

The band’s name holds deep personal meaning, taken from their late mother’s maiden name. “It’s special to see mum’s name on our posters“, Eugene shares. “She was always proud of us, and we want to make her prouder“.
Recorded at Echo Zoo studio in Eastbourne with Grammy-winning producers Mike Horner and Robbie Nelson – whose work includes The Rolling Stones, Hot Chip, Hozier, and Deaf Havana – this album is poised to be a landmark release for the band.
Fresh off a European tour with The Wanton Bishops, Dubinski will soon announce more tour dates in support of “What Is Your Definition of Happiness?” If “Feel It” is anything to go by, this band is not just making music – they’re making a movement. And I, for one, can’t wait to feel it live.
