Body Count – Cover of Pink Floyd’s Comfortably Numb

Ice-T‘s metal band Body Count has made headlines with their cover of Pink Floyd‘s classic track “Comfortably Numb“, and the new version even features David Gilmour himself. Body Count’s take on the iconic 1979 single comes ahead of their upcoming album “Merciless“, set to be released on November 22 via Century Media.

The updated version of “Comfortably Numb” gives a fresh, heavy twist to the original, reflecting the intense socio-political climate of today. Ice-T describes the cover as deeply introspective: “It’s me acknowledging that I’m older now… we’re all in a place where we don’t have to face reality”. He reflects on how society often watches the chaos of the world from a distance, desensitized by technology, until it becomes personal. This approach injects new life into the song’s themes of emotional detachment.

David Gilmour, who wrote the original track nearly 50 years ago, was initially approached by Ice-T for permission to cover the song, but Gilmour went a step further by offering to contribute to the recording. “They’ve made it relevant again“, Gilmour said, praising the modernized lyrics and their reflection on today’s increasingly chaotic world.
